One alternative to the purchase of girl’s gymnastics leotards that we have not discussed yet is the creation of one’s own leotards. While this is not a viable alternative for all of the readers of this blog, it is an alternative. I have had several parents successfully create girls gymnastics leotards that are every bit as durable as those purchased from commercial businesses.

I’d like to hear how your outfits turn out. The creation of your own outfit provides a way for parents who are looking for an inexpensive way to get girl’s gymnastics leotards for their children, and provides a learning experience in the process.

In the course of follow-up investigation on the matter, I also found that Amazon offers a gymnastics leotard pattern. I went out and found a link to the patterns that they offer. These look like a decent pattern (based on my professional opinion) and the price is right (around $10). If you make the decision to go out and try these I would also really appreciate any feedback you may have. With Leotards becoing so expensive, sewing your own leo is a great alternative.

Gymnastics Leotards – Like a Glove

Often times I have been asked by gymnast and parent alike “How should the gymnastics leotards fit when worn by my child?” The answer to this question will vary from gymnast to gymnast, but as a rule of thumb, the gymnastics leotard should be tight and form fitting. While this may be a little awkward to most girl gymnasts, it is necessary. The reason the girls gymnastics leotard need to be tight is that one does not want the gymnastics leotard to get in the way during practice. On most events this will not be an issue, but when the young ladies are performing on the uneven bars the potential exists for the hands of the gymnast to get tangled in a poorly fitting gymnastics leotard.

Young ladies can be self conscious when wearing these tightly fitting outfits, so I always encouraged them to wear bike shorts over the top of the leotard. Helped them feel a little less exposed. Girls’ gymnastics leotards are form fitting by design, and young gymnasts will merely have to adapt to that fact if they intend to participate in the sport they love.

During the course of time, I will discuss the many options parents have when it comes to purchasing the attire their little ones need when participating in a sport like gymnastics. There are all sorts of ways to purchase leotards, some very cost effective, and some very expensive. Which option suits you best will be determined by your budget and requirements.

This posting will speak to new girls gymnastics leotards, specifically those of GK Elite Sportswear. As time goes on, I will submit postings for other brands as well.

First let me say I have always liked the lines put out by GK. They produce a high quality product that is very durable and typically pleasing to the eye. They have been in business for more than 25 years, and have an outstanding reputation in the industry.

One of the other things I like about GK is they have resale programs that are specifically designed for small gymnastics pro-shops. I always like it when the big guy helps the little guy out . :)

Their products can be a little pricey, but as the old saying goes…you get what you pay for. I certainly endorse their products.
